Site Summary:
The need for a centralised, independent
organisation capable of providing information relating to any aspect
of disability was the subject of discussion for many years.
In December 1982, the Disability Information & Resource Centre was
formed to meet this need.
The Disability Information & Resource Centre is an Incorporated
body funded by the State Government. The Management Committee includes
people with disabilities and representatives of organisations
providing services to people with disabilities.
DIRC's role is to "point people in the right direction" - to
end the confusion concerning where to go for information about
disability - to refer people to the most appropriate place to meet
their needs.
The Centre was built and furnished through corporate and public
donations as a SA Jubilee 150 project. It has many design features to
give easy access for people with disabilities.
With regard to its resources, DIRC has a clear policy - they are
available to all people with disabilities, and to organisations and
persons involved in providing services to people with disabilities.
