People With Disabilities - Uganda (PWD) is a national non-profit, nonpartisan peace and disability rights organization. PWD is an association of independent, multi-issue, national and community-based disability rights organizations working for equal opportunities for disabled people in Uganda.

PWD was founded in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, in 1989 as a membership organization, with chapters in 10 districts, reaching 1/3 one-third of Uganda’s 21 million people.A board of directors manages the day-to-day operations, and resources come from international volunteer support, private donations, commercial enterprises, and limited public funding.

PWD's vision is to establish peace and accessible living for all people. PWD's mission is to achieve this vision by promoting awareness, advocating peace, and establishing services that will improve the status of people with disabilities in general, and the people of Uganda in particular.

PWD’s goals in sustaining the organization and in enhancing the status of people with disabilities are:

  1. To act as a watchdog over government actions that affect peace, health, and disability issues, including informing people of emerging changes and helping to give them a voice in the policy development
  2. To provide training and technical assistance to disabled people, including collaborating with national and community based organizations regarding peace and disability rights issues in their communities
  3. To conduct information campaigns about the concerns of public (particularly persons with disabilities) using television, radio, newspapers, and other media outletsincluding using alternate methods to reach rural communities that do not have access to these outlets
  4. To serve as a consumer clearinghouse for information on disability rights and peace
  5. To garner support from a wide range of organizations (from business, to advocacy, to health provider organizations), promoting peace and equal rights for all Ugandans

The PWD membership comprises primarily of organizations of people with disabilities and their families from all parts of Uganda. PWD offers its members the opportunity to become involved both on the district and on national levels.
