After President John F. Kennedy's death, trustees renamed CRI the Kennedy Institute in his memory. In 1992, the name was changed once again to the Kennedy Krieger Institute to honor an original board member and long-time supporter, Zanvyl Krieger. Sixty years after its inception, Phelps' enterprise has evolved into an international resource committed to providing quality services to individuals with not only cerebral palsy, but many other disabilities.
