UN Paper on Meeting ICT Access and Service Needs for Persons with Disabilities Now Available in Three Translations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 20, 2008

As the leading United Nations agency for information and communication technology, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) commissioned Cynthia D. Waddell of ICDRI to produce a background research paper and global snapshot for a seminar on “Sharing Experience on Best Practices and Services for People with Disabilities” held in Geneva, Switzerland on 17 September 2007.

The paper, Meeting Information and Communications Technology Access and Service Needs for People with Disabilities: Major Issues for Development and Implementation of Successful Policies and Strategies, , is now available in three translations. The English, French and Spanish, translations are posted on the ITU website under Document #5 at http://www.itu.int/ITU-D/study_groups/SGP_2006-2010/events/2007/Workshops/documents.html.   Please note the above links are to documents in .doc format.  They are also available in PDF format but they may not be accessible.

This contribution to public policy and technology literature represents another significant activity of ICDRI as part of the ongoing consultancy services for the United Nations and governments now ratifying the UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

A public policy and technology expert, Cynthia Waddell leads ICDRI’s Accessibility Oversight Professional Consulting Services for government, university and commercial clients. This fee for services effort supports the mission of ICDRI to increase opportunities for people with disabilities by identifying barriers to participation and promoting best practices and universal design of technology for the global community.
