Requesting the Assistance of the Internet Community to Adapt Macromedia's Accessibility Solutions Guidelines for use in AustraliaFrom Tom Worthington
This is to request the assistance of the Internet community to adapt Macromedia's Accessibility Solutions guidelines for use in Australia <http://www.tomw.net.au/as/as.html>. The intent is to provide an overview of resources available to make the web more accessible to people with a disability, using Macromedia products. It is a reworking for the Australian environment of U.S material. The original addresses the requirements of Section 508 of the U.S. 1974 Rehabilitation Act, (commonly referred to as "Section 508" or "508") which prohibits U.S. federal agencies from buying, developing, maintaining, or using electronic and information technology that are inaccessible to people with disabilities. The Australian version will emphasize the World Wide Web Consortium's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. Those with an interest in accessibility of the web, and in particular the Australian context, are invited to contribute content, comments and corrections. In particular Australian guidelines and resources web sites are needed. The final result will form part of the Macromedia Accessibility Resource Center for use by web developers. ps: Macromedia will hold free accessibility seminars in 2002. For more information on this and future seminars in Australia mailto:macromedia.seminars@tomw.net.au?subject=accessibility
