Site Summary: The Deaf Empowerment and Advancement Fellowship INTernational List is an email-based discussion group devoted to deaf people in developing nations and their supporters. Since 1998, "deafintl" has enabled about 200 subscribers from more than 30 countries to exchange news and information related to deaf communities in developing nations, share ideas and advice on initiating and improving various projects targeted at these communities, and assist each other in finding the resources they need. Through this list, the deaf community in Turkey was able to recruit several volunteers from the United States to work with them, including one woman who stayed a year; a deaf leader in Ethiopia was able to receive advice on how to help local deaf community members who were experiencing substance abuse problems; and a number of individuals planning trips to other countries were able to make contacts with the local deaf community before they arrived.
