Tragedy

September 11, 2001

The 11th September was  the International Day of Peace, and this makes more horrible, if possible, the tragedy.  You can read the message of Kofi Annan the day before: http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs/2001/sgsm7945.doc.htm

We need to redouble our efforts to work together.....

Words for All of Us from Vinton Cerf

Hot Line Information on Attack and Victim Emergency Relief

The Center wishes to express it sorrow and condolences for all of those who had family, friends or were personally involved with the attacks on the United States today.

Our hearts and prayers are with you,  your families, friends and loved ones.

A call for blood has gone out in the US.

Should you wish to help by giving blood, the American Red Cross has posted 1-800-HELP NOW to reach the Red Cross and 1-800-GIVE LIFE for donating blood.  More information can be had at their web site at http://www.redcross.org.  Be patient it is difficult to reach, there is a great deal of traffic on the site.

Official American Red Cross Statement

The Red Cross also has advice that can help people deal with their feelings brought about by the terrorist attack. Among recommendations for coping:

  •  Talk about feelings
  •  Ask for help - strong feelings can last for weeks
  •  Listen to other people and be kind
  •  Spend time with family and return to the usual routine
  •  Look away from graphic news videos
  •  Reassure children that parents will protect them and take every precaution to keep them safe
  •  Recall other fearful times that did not last forever
  •  Do something that could help others

Let us work together  to demonstrate our compassion and strength in this time of great sorrow.
